Church School

Reverend Dr. Ellen Redcliffe at Children's Time
The purpose of the Church School is to introduce children to Jesus and Christian ideas in creative ways. The children are divided into two groups: Primary (kindergarten to grade 5) and Youth (grade 6 and up). They join the congregation for the beginning of the Sunday Worship service and then go to their classes after the children’s story.

Newtonbrook’s teachers use a variety of resources to illustrate the themes of the service in a fun way. Teachers typically change every six to eight weeks. The children present a play to the congregation on White Gift Sunday in December. In recent years they have adapted “Pippin the Christmas Pig” by Jean Little and “The Selfish Giant” by Oscar Wilde. As well, Church School students occasionally present their work to the congregation. A recent example was the banner they made, where they talked about the symbols they used on it.
