Lester B. Pearson Place, 45 Cummer Avenue, North York, ON
Lester B. Pearson Place is a 53 unit mixed affordable housing project. There are 1, 2 and 3 bedroom units for families, singles and seniors built on the former parking lot of Newtonbrook United Church (NUC) and the Taiwanese United Church in Toronto (TUCT). The tenants began to occupy their new homes on July 1, 2006. All 53 units at Lester B. Pearson Place are occupied.

In 2008, the Ledger family agreed to extend the Gwendolyne Ledger Memorial Education Scholarship to youth living at Pearson Place, who are graduating from Grade 12. These youth are encouraged to apply for the Scholarship to assis with their post secondary education. Appreciation goes to the congregations of Newtonbrook United Church and The Taiwanese United Church in Toronto, as well as the wider community who have supported fund raising efforts towards this education special fund.

NUC-TUCT Non-Profit Homes Corporation is an independent non-profit corporation with representation from members of both Newtonbrook United Church and the Taiwanese United Church in Toronto and from the community. It is a faith based organization. This corporation is separate from the Church and is nondenominational in its decisions relating to the selection of tenants and the day to day activities of the tenants.

The building is totally non smoking both within the units and all public areas including the grounds and the parking areas.
The official opening of Lester B Pearson Place on May 11th 2007 was a highlight of the year with the recognition that affordable housing can be successfully established on a church parking lot. Our goal of making a difference in the lives of those who have made Lester B. Pearson Place their home is reflected in the smiles and respect our tenants have for each other and for the pride and care they have of their homes.

Construction of LBP Place starts in 2005
We continue to appreciate the ongoing personal donations by individuals and groups who have remembered NUC-TUCT Non-Profit Homes Corporation as their “Charity of Choice.” throughout the year. The donor wall was established in the front lobby to recognize the efforts of so many who helped to ensure that Lester B. Pearson Place became a reality.

“Building Better Lives” for those who live at Lester B. Pearson Place has been a goal of this Board.
