Women's Fellowship Breakfast
Women's Fellowship Breakfast - 2008
The Women's Fellowship Breakfast Program, at Newtonbrook United Church, consists of monthly gatherings of women from the congregation, their friends, and newcomers. Members of the congregation volunteer to bring simple items to share a continental breakfast, coffee, tea, and juice. The aims of these monthly gatherings are to get to know one another better, to share information, to ask for and receive support, to learn together about topics of interest, to support church and community programs, and to enjoy good food, conversation, laughter and fun.
Meetings are usually held on the first Sunday of each month just prior to our Sunday worship service, between 8:30 and 10:00 a.m. Frequently, topics and/or speakers are arranged. Ideas for topics/speakers come from those who attend. Past topics have included:

Alternative Gift Giving - Loans to the Working Poor through KIVA.org
Reducing Commercialism and Materialism Surrounding Christmas
Home Organizing and Simplifying,
Home Renovation,
The United Church's Emerging Spirit Campaign,
The Fair Trade Industry,
What does "Spirituality" Mean,
Profile of Community Program: "Women Moving Forward",
Eating Locally,
Confronting Addiction,
Dealing with Depression.

Those who attend the women's breakfasts are encouraged to bring a toonie donation, if they are able, to each meeting. This money covers the purchase of coffee and tea for the gatherings, and through these monies we are able to make small donations to organizations of the group's choosing.

At the December 2008 meeting, the group decided to donate $100.00 from the toonie donations to support the departure baskets that are given by Newtonbrook United Church to each family leaving the North York Women's shelter. Breakfast participants also generously donate cleaning supplies, pillows, dishtowels, and other handy items that make up these departure baskets which are gratefully accepted by the families who are starting a new chapter in their lives.

All women are welcome to join us for breakfast, to hear more about a topic of interest, to join in our fellowship and conversation, and to join our congregation for our creative worship service afterward.
